Hello. I'm Dr. Kim Fischer, a board-certified anesthesiologist specializing in chronic pain and symptom recovery.
I questioned the separation of mind and body throughout my medical training. I wondered what we were missing when we failed to see a person as a whole being. That curiosity followed me into practice.
As an anesthesiologist with over a decade of clinical experience, I've cared for patients undergoing their second, third, and sometimes fourth back surgery for chronic pain. If the structural problem was fixed each time, what was causing the pain that remained?
I didn't find the answer until I became the patient in pain.
I searched for a physical explanation and saw multiple clinicians. My imaging revealed small abnormalities, what I now understand as normal abnormalities unlikely to generate the debilitating pain I was experiencing.
It was my physical therapist who first introduced me to neuroplastic pain. Once I learned the neuroscience, it was clear: this was the missing link I had been searching for since medical school.
After healing myself, I sought out the leading experts in the field and trained formally in Pain Reprocessing Therapy, Emotional Awareness and Expression Therapy, and Internal Family Systems work. I've since diagnosed and treated neuroplastic conditions as a mindbody physician at Lin Health and the VA Eastern Colorado Health Care System.
Now I offer this knowledge and skill to my patients at Beckon Health.
Having been a patient myself, I know what it means to finally feel heard. I bring presence and clinical expertise to every patient I see.
